The Reader Table

Frequently asked questions

Can readers earn credits?

Readers don't earn credits. During the free beta, Authors earn credits by giving eligible private feedback. Nobody earns credits for buying books, clicking links or posting public reviews, and credits can't be bought during beta.

Can a reader upload a book?

No. Switch to Author participation to list books — free during beta. Paid plans may be introduced after beta.

What happens if my author subscription ends?

Your books, feedback and purchased credits are kept. Your listings become inactive, and you can't upload, promote or spend credits until you renew.

What are credits for?

Authors use one credit to request private feedback on their own book. Credits aren't money and can't be transferred.

Do I have to post a public review?

Only if the author asked for one on Amazon or Goodreads for that feedback request — you'll be asked for the link. Reviews must reflect your honest opinion, follow the platform's rules and disclose a free copy where required.

What's the difference between private feedback and a public review?

Private feedback goes only to the author through The Reader Table. A public review is something you post yourself on an external site such as Goodreads or Amazon. The Reader Table doesn't show star ratings of its own.

Is my budget visible to others?

No. Purchase preferences and budgets are private to you. They're used only to suggest books under 'Within budget'.

Does buying a book help my matching?

No. Buying books never earns credits, discounts or better matching. 'I bought it' is your own note; we don't verify purchases.

How do I report a problem?

Use the contact form and choose "Report content" or "Expired promotion", or the report button on a book page when signed in.

How do I delete my account?

In your profile, choose 'Request account deletion'. A moderator processes it. You can export your feedback first.
